AFL 2000 Player Auction & Owners Meeting

Owners Present: Chris R. Hill, Butch Nuss, Ross Hendrickson, Troy Keenan, John Wilson, Kyle Steadman, Bret Heim, Clifton McCullough, Kyle Steadman, James Stoneman, Rick LeJuerrne, Clint Whitney, George Evans, Chris C. Hill

Owners Absent: Colby Fries, Bryan Monninger, Pat Birkbeck, Kevin Givens


Recap of the Owners Meeting:

1. Auction Dates - The Date for the AFL Auction will be decided 90 days in advance of the auction to allow for all owners to attend.

2. Changes in Protection: Discussion of the number of protected players was discussed - moving from 2 players to 1. The Motion failed to pass.

3. Changes in Franchise: Discussion of the number of franchise players was discussed - moving from 2 players to 1. The Motion passed.

4. AFL Expansion: Discussion of AFL Expansion for the 2001 season was discussed - A motion to expand to 14 teams was discussed and passed with a unanimous vote of the AFL owners. The following is a recap of the motion: The AFL will expand to 14 teams for the 2001 season. The first team will be awarded to Colby Fries. The second franchise will be decided by a random drawing between the remaining two interested parties: Kevin Givens and Butch Nuss. Should one of the existing owners drop out of the AFL for the 2001 season there will be no drawing and both Kevin Givens and Butch Nuss will be awarded a franchise. Details on the schedule and divisions will be discussed during the off-season and be voted on by the existing owners. New franchises will enter the 2001 auction with the 1st and 2nd pick in the Rookie Draft.

5. AFL on CBS: Discussion of the CBS Sportsline web site was discussed and Commissioner Hill handed out owners manuals on how to utilize the new web site. Owners will post their lineups and handle the dropping and adding of players via the web site.

6. Name Changes/Ownersship Changes: Chris C. Hill asked permission from the league to relocate his franchise to Woobietown. Motion passed.

Troy Keenan asked permission to relocate his franchise to Overland Park as well as changing his name to the T-Bills. Motion Passed.

Rick LeJuerrne asked permission to change is name to the RL Renegades. Motion Passed.

Butch Nuss joined the Havana Riddlers as a co-owner.

Bryan Monninger joined the Hendo Hellraisers as a 10% owner.

The meeting was adjourned and the 2000 Player Auction Began.
Post Auction Rule Changes/Discussions:

1. Drop/Add Change: The rule regarding the 1 week layover of players between being dropped and picked up was discussed and passed. Effective immediately this time frame is no longer required.

2. 2-Point Conversion: Effectively immediately the points for all 2-point conversions are now awarded to the player making the conversion (i.e. the receiver catching the pass and making the conversion, the runningback rushing for the conversion).
